Active project

  • NOVIB is currently coordinating a project entitled “Promoting Disability Inclusive Development Practice in Key Socio-economic Sectors”, supported with the grant of European Union Civil Society Fund (EU CSF) II. The action is being implemented in collaboration by NOVIB, ENDAN and 6 Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs), affiliated to NOVIB and ENDAN as network members. The action aims at contributing to the promotion of inclusive practice from the disability perspective in 3 major development sectors: Physical infrastructure, Education and training, and Employment/labor market. To this end, the action encompasses a number of specific and groups of activities that are planned to be implemented in close cooperation with and the active involvement of relevant government sector organizations and other key actors.
  • The main objective /goal of the action is to maximize the participation of persons with disabilities in socio-economic development, with particular attention to women with disabilities.
  • The following are the specific objectives/expected outcomes of the action:
  • 1)To inform and draw the attention of the key government organs on the challenges and opportunities of persons with disabilities, disabled women in particular, with respect to increased participation in development programs and services;
  • 2) Empower DPOs to unify their efforts and become vocal advocates of inclusive development;
  • Enhance public and community awareness on disability and inclusive development issues, and the rationale for coordinated action in these respects.

Key planned and ongoing activities of the Action

  • Conduct assessments on disability inclusiveness of the education sector, the employment/labour market and physical infrastructure design and regulation standards
  • Organise validation/promotion workshops involving key stakeholders at federal level on the findings of the assessments (3 events)
  • Organise regional policy dialogue sessions on the findings of the assessments (5 events)
  • Organise 5 regional consultative conferences to discuss the need and modality of a national disability forum
  • Founding and launching conference of the National Disability Forum
  • Training workshop for media practitioners on the promotion of disability inclusive development practices
  • Consultative workshop with representatives of key government institutions on the promotion of inclusive development

Key Stakeholders of the Action

  • Ministries for Education; ministry of labour and social affairs; ministry of women and children’s affairs; Ministry of urban development and housing; ministry of construction; ministry of Transport; the concerned standing committees in the House of Peoples’ Representatives; City administrations; regional state councils; as well as a range of parallel and line agencies and bureaus at federal and regional levels, among many others.
